Creative Writing Inspired by the Arts

workshop series for adults with Jean Tuomey

Five Mondays commencing 6th March, 11.00am-1.00pm, with linked events on Wed 8th March @ 8pm & Wed 29th March @ 8pm

Here’s a creative writing course focusing on the arts. This workshop series is ideal for those who would like to write but find they cannot get started, and offers participants the opportunity to write in an encouraging environment.

Each week participants will use triggers from the Linenhall’s programme to get their ideas flowing: attending a literary event featuring writers Lisa McInerney, Sinéad Gleeson and publisher Lisa Coen (see p.8); a guided visit with artist Nuala Clarke to her exhibition As Above, So Below in our gallery (see p.18); and attending The Humours of Bandon, a theatre show about the trials and tribulations of competitive dancing (see p.10). From these experiences, participants will have a whole range of starting points for putting words on the page. Each week a different aspect of the arts will be explored and guidance will be provided to support your writing practice. No previous experience of writing is necessary, just a willingness to give it a go.

The series is under the guidance of Jean Tuomey, a teacher with over 20 years experience. She trained as a writing facilitator with the National Association for Poetry Therapy in the US, and has a passionate enthusiasm for creative writing. Jean has led many extremely successful writing projects for the Linenhall.

Creative Writing Inspired by the Arts for adults takes place over five Monday mornings commencing 6th March from 11.00am-1.00pm (continuing 13th, 20th, 27th March and 3rd April). Cost per head for the workshop series is €70 and INCLUDES attendance at the literary event with writers Lisa McInerney, Sinéad Gleeson and publisher Lisa Coen on 8th March at 8.00pm and The Humours of Bandon on 29th March at 8.00pm.
