Free Concert by The Whistleblast Quartet and Mayo Youth Orchestra in St. Patricks National School Castlebar – Sunday 23rd of January @ 5pm.
As part of Mayo County Council Arts office Youth Art Programme, Excel, The Whistleblast Quartet and Mayo Youth Orchestra will give a free concert in St. Patricks National School Castlebar at 5pm on Sunday 23rd of January, all welcome.
The WhistleBlast Quartet – Mary Curran (French Horn), Sile Daly (Oboe and Cor Anglais), Ken Edge (Saxophones and Clarinet) and Andrew Synnott (Piano) – is a group of professional musicians who work with the RTE orchestras, Opera Theatre Company, shows, etc. The WhistleBlast Quartet is a unique group that brings music to all age groups in an educational way with the emphasis on FUN, regardless of musical ability. Mayo Youth Orchestra performs regularly around Co. Mayo, and has toured extensively (Holland, France Norway etc.). The orchestra has also provided music on important occasions such as the St. Patrick's Day Parade, Presidential visits, and other high-profile events. The group represents the main opportunity for young classical musicians in the county to experience playing in an ensemble

Top musicians Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh (voice, flute) and John Wynne (flute) join forces with musical ambassadors for Connaught John McEvoy (fiddle) and John Blake (guitar, flute, bouzouki) to explore the wild dance music, slow airs and haunting songs of the West of Ireland. Muireann is best known for her work with top Irish group Danú, John Wynne is regarded as one of the best Traditional flute players of his generation and a regular collaborator with fiddler John McEvoy, while multi-instrumentalist John Blake is a highly sought after musician in his own right with name checks on many top albums. Winter Music Classes
Winter music classes in Áras Inis Gluaire are recommencing on Wednesday, January 12. Expert tuition in guitar, keyboard, fiddle, tin whistle and accordion from 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. for beginners, and from 8.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. for past pupils.

Music in the Community with John Hoban
Music in the Community continues every Monday evening with John Hoban from 8.00pm to 9.30 pm. A social evening of music and song with audience participation – feel free to bring musical instruments. All ages and abilities welcome, No Charge. This project is funded by Mayo VEC and Mayo County Arts Office.
