Tuesday 8th March @ 8.00pm. TheatreCorp/Town Hall Theatre - The Glass Menagerie

“So what are we going to do with the rest of our lives?”

One of the greatest plays ever written by an American writer, The Glass Menagerie is based on Tennessee Williams’ guilt-ridden attempt to flee his own mother in order to claim his artistic destiny. A son longs to escape from his stifling home, where his genteel mother worries about the future prospects of his lame, shy sister. As the family works hard to survive, the mother struggles to free herself of a dependent daughter and make her face reality, whilst she herself uses her own fantasies of a glamorous past in the Deep South to keep her own reality bearable. Her son meanwhile tries desperately to keep his own dreams alive. Williams’ classic, stirring play about dreams, responsibility, memory and escape is brought to stirring life in this new production by TheatreCorp and the Town Hall Theatre Galway, directed by Max Hafler. Adm: 15 euro / 12 euro (concessions)

“Director Max Hafler and his stripped-down staging and cast tell this story with relentless innovation” - Irish Theatre Magazine (on previous Theatrecorp production Blood Wedding)

 ‘Message of Peace’

‘Message of Peace’ tells the amazing story of a lesser-known Irish hero named John Boyle O’Reilly. In this show, Seán Tyrrell effortlessly traces his journey from early childhood set against a backdrop of famine, revolution, Fenianism and penal servitude for life in Australia and his great escape from there to the USA. Songs in the show allow Tyrrell to connect history of the 19th century and modern times in a seamless way. Tyrrell’s love of traditional music is very much to the fore as the story is cleverly tied together with jigs, reels, a march, and a few slow airs. Using an array of instruments, Seán weaves effortlessly between narrative, instrumental and song. See ‘Message of Peace’ in Áras Inis Gluaire at 8.30 p.m. on Friday, March 11. Admission €10.
