Core Theatre College (Galway) Audition dates released.

 

After two succesful years we are opening our doors again to students that are serious about theatre training. Our popular Autumn course will start on the 18th of September to the 2nd of December 2012. The Autumn course offers in depth professional training; we teach voice, movement for theatre, acting technique, theatre history and includes masterclasses in stage combat, improv, mask and audition techniques. Mikel Murfi (Abbey Theatre), Tim Smith (Druid Theatre), Miquel Barcelo (The Gombeens), Liam Halligan (Storytellers Theatre), Tara Breathnach (TG4) and others have given masterclasses.

ALâ have been running ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’ Facilitation Skills Training courses over the past four years in conjunction with the Cty of Galway V.E.C. and NUI Galway Societies. All of these courses have been facilitated by the best available facilitators/Jokers including Mary Duffin, Mags McMonagle, Janna Lindstrom, Annette Tierney, Andrew Jackson, Julian Boal, Gavin Crichton, Sarah O’Toole. Through these courses we provide participants with a means of learning to use drama as an effective community engagement and social justice tool. To this end these courses offer both theoretical exploration and practical immersion in Theatre of the Oppressed techniques, with a particular focus on Image and Forum Theatre and in the context of community organizing.

ALâ, founded in 2004  is a personal social and community development  organization, catering for adults of all  nationalities and ethnic groups, which uses theatre and education as developmental tools. Workshops are run on a weekly basis September to June each year. It is a not for profit organization, run by participants, with Charitable Status.

LET'S GET SINGING!  A TOOLKIT FOR GROUP SINGING AND CHORAL PRACTICE  

The Association of Irish Choirs & Music Generation, in association with the IrishWorldAcademyof Music & Dance, presents, Let's Get Singing! A toolkit for group singing & choral practice at the Universityof Limerickon 23rd & 24th July 2012.

Led by Choral Music Education Practitioner Anne Barry along with a specialist faculty, this practical two-day course is open to anyone currently working, or interested in working, with children's and youth choirs in a range of teaching and learning environments. Come along to this 'hands-on' participatory course which will provide a practical toolkit of supports and resources including:

*    Warm-ups and work-outs for young voices
*    Approaches to teaching and learning in choral music education
*    Introduction to a range of repertoire and resources
*    Score preparation
*    Conducting
*    Approaches to commissioning
*    Establishing your choral programme

Course Timetable: Monday 9.30 am - 8.30 pm / Tuesday 9.30 am - 6.30 pm

Developed in response to the growth in group singing across the country, this stimulating two-day course will kick-start what is intended to be a long-term initiative, aimed at:

*    providing ongoing high-quality continuing professional development in choral music education
*    building a professional development network for vocal ensemble leaders working with young voices
*    resourcing local, regional and national networks for children's and youth choirs.

Diploma in Community & Group Music Teaching at the RIAM  

In response to Music Generation, the RIAM has created a Diploma that aims to develop appropriately skilled musicians to teach in the community and classroom setting.  

This one-year programme will be run over 6 intensive weekends on RIAM premises inDublinbetween September and June of each year.  

On-site work in schools or community settings will also be undertaken by participants. The six weekends are as follows:

The aim of the Masters in Arts & Heritage Management is to address specific and identified needs within the arts and heritage industry for management training in the area of cultural administration, and to provide you with the necessary skills for effective cultural leadership and management. It offers you an opportunity to reflect on your professional practice (work placement) and gain a theoretical and critical perspective on managing organisations and events in the cultural/heritage sector.

The Masters in Arts & Heritage Management is a 90-credit programme suited to Arts graduates, Business graduates with a particular interest in arts/heritage, and practitioners of the arts/heritage sectors.

MA Art in Public: University of Ulster, Belfast Campus

The MA Art in Public has evolved from current complex concerns for the role of art / artists in a changing society. The MA focuses on a wide set of contexts, it is based in and responds toBelfast, where engaged art practices have been developed in various “public” spaces for many years.

The programme seeks to develop testing modes of working that are dialogic, participatory, interventionist or collaborative in intention and structure.

Throughout the programme students will work with formal / informal external partners and be expected to develop self initiated, innovative practice based approaches.

The programme is run full-time over 3 semesters – a period of 18 months including a summer break. Part-time it is run over a 3 year period.

Arts Courses at Newtownbarry House

The fully equipped Artists Studio is in the old Kitchen of Newtownbarry House. It has beautiful light from its two roof light windows making it an excellent painting and drawing studio. It has easels, a room with sinks and a separate room for painting boards or still life. It can accommodate 12 people on the art courses. It also has a separate room for lunch and discussions. Newtownbarry also offers B&B with a delicious dinner for anybody who wishes to stay. There are also plenty of opportunities to do landscape painting or drawing around the grounds and parkland of the house.
