Dramatic music and raw emotional power remain undiminished in Orfeo, over 400 years after the opera was composed. This earliest of operatic gems still enthralls modern audiences with Monteverdi's entrancing and exquisite music lingering in the mind. Director Ben Barnes updates the action, opening with wedding day celebrations, Orfeo is about to marry his beloved Eurydice when disaster strikes. Can our hero rescue his lover?
Sung in English, with Music Direction by Monica Huggett, the captivating score is performed by the Irish Baroque Orchestra. Design is by Joe Vanek with lighting by John Comiskey. Orfeo will delight the first time opera-goer and seasoned fan alike. This will be the first opera performed in the Ballina Arts Centre and we look forward to welcoming Opera Theatre Company to Ballina.
