The National Campaign for the Arts (NCFA) has organised a petition to Government to ensure that the arts are on national and local government agendas. The NCFA is calling for the following:- Maintenance of current levels of funding to the Arts Council- Retention of Culture Ireland, the agency for the promotion of Irish arts worldwide- Retention of The Irish Film Board, development agency of the Irish film industry- Retention of the Artists' Tax Exemption Scheme- Commitment to retain the Arts portfolio at cabinet as part of a senior ministerial portfolio
This petition went live on Wednesday 28 October 2009. Already more than 3,100 people have signed the petition (as of 10am on Monday 2 November 2009).

TRADE will take place at The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon in Co. Leitrim on 4 and 5 December 2009. The Model in Sligo is currently seeking Curatorial Interns for its 2010 visual art programme. Internships will support Model contemporary art programming, collection programming and development, Model projects, and The Model studios programme in forms of administrative support, hands-on experience with exhibition production and artist support, and research, writing and scholarship that overlaps with candidates’ areas of research. The Model is also developing a quarterly publication that expands writing across Model programming and into international discourse and scholarship.Internships are available for three, six and twelve month durations. Graduate student interns may gain credits from their institutions as part of their role in The Model’s programme. Applicants should have demonstrable experience in art history, curatorial practice, contemporary arts, or visual art production. Experience with gallery administration or independent programming is an asset and graduate students in Art History or Curatorial Programmes are especially encouraged to apply. La Catedral Studios invites curators, theatre producers, solo artists, performers and artist collectives working in all media to submit proposals for its 2010 combined media programme at its multi-purpose venue, The Back Loft. The Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris, France is currently inviting applications from Irish artists for a number of artistic residencies at the Irish College in Paris from September 2010 to July 2011. Through the residencies and its own cultural programme, the Centre Culturel Irlandais showcases contemporary Irish culture on an international stage.The Centre Culturel Irlandais' Residency Programme gives participants the opportunity to spend time living and working in Paris. The residency is open to practitioners in all art forms, within the limits of the facilities available in the Centre. Proposals are currently being accepted for inclusion in the Visual Studies Reader, a collaborative book project authored by post-graduate students from around the world that is due for publication by Routledge in 2012. The project has been initiated by a group of students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.The publication will be an anthology of writing on visual studies, art history, visual communications, visual anthropology and visuality in general, including science. All post-graduate students studying for an MA, MFA, or PhD, or those who received their PhD in the last six months are eligible to contribute texts to the book. The MA Art in Public course at the University of Ulster’s Belfast campus has evolved from current complex concerns for the role of art and artists in a changing society where engaged art practices have been developed in various 'contested spaces' for many years.The programme seeks to develop testing modes of working that are dialogic, participatory, interventionist or collaborative in intention and structure.
