CROAGH PATRICK 365 - FROM LECTURE TO LYRIC

SONGWRITING WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS (16 yrs+)

with Kate McKeon

Saturday 14th May from 12.00pm-1.30pm

A taster of the art and craft of songwriting. Using free writing techniques and verse and chorus templates to get the ball rolling, participants will create a song with the Reek and Matt Loughrey’s Croagh Patrick 365 challenge as inspiration. Facilitator Kate McKeon will demonstrate some basic music theory in relation to melody, rhythm and rhyme and will work with participants to provide musical frameworks on which to hang song lyrics. This is a creative, participatory and fun workshop not to be missed. No musical knowledge required.

Kate McKeon holds an M.Phil in Music and Media Technologies and a Diploma in Film & TV Studies. As well as having experience as a teacher and workshop facilitator, she has worked in the areas of photography, video editing, sound recording and graphic design. She is a member of the Linenhall’s community arts team.

CROAGH PATRICK 365 - PAINTING AND DRAWING WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS (16 yrs+)

with Gráinne O’Reilly

Saturday 14th May from 12.00pm-1.00pm

Croagh Patrick has inspired multitudinous artists and painters. Under the guidance of artist Gráinne O’Reilly, create an art work inspired by the Reek and Matt Loughrey’s Croagh Patrick 365 challenge. The workshop will include instruction in drawing, painting, colour and technique. No art experience required. All materials will be provided.

Gráinne O’Reilly is one of Mayo’s most prolific painters. She studied fine art at Sligo Institute of Technology and her work has been exhibited throughout the country, including solo shows at the Linenhall Arts Centre and Westport’s Custom House Studios. She has extensive experience in designing and facilitating visual art workshops.

VISUAL ART PLAY for 2-5 year olds

with Lucy Hill

From Saturday 28th May (for four weeks)

A paint-and-make playground for 2-5 year olds to explore with a parent or guardian, including painting, drawing, glue and glitter, sand art, collage, chalk and lots more. Children get to make their own creative decisions and choose from a wide variety of materials, exploring colour and texture along the way in a safe environment under the direction of artist and teacher Lucy Hill.

Lucy Hill is a Newport based painter who studied painting in Cork, Dublin and Barcelona. Her work has been exhibited throughout the country and she has been the recipient of numerous awards, public art commissions and residencies. Lucy has a keen interest in visual art education for the very young, and over the last number of years she has been developing her ever-popular art workshops for two-year-olds here at the Linenhall Arts Centre. Her workshops exude an air of happy and calm playfulness in an environment where children are free to explore artistic materials as they please.

VISUAL ART PLAY runs over four weeks from Saturday 28th May (continuing Saturdays 4th June, 11th June, 18th June). There are three options to choose from: 11.00am-12.00pm or 1.00pm-2.00pm or 3.00pm-4.00pm. Children must be accompanied by a guardian. The fee for the full four sessions is €35 per child.
