ADNP - Arts & Disability Networking Pilot

In a developmental partnership, The Arts Council, Mayo County Council Arts Office and Arts & Disability Ireland worked together in 2009 and 2010 to deliver a pilot programme for Arts and Disability. The programme delivered a number of strategic goals including:

1. Disability Equality training for all arts venues staff in the county, followed by the development of practical plans which encourage the use of arts venues by people with disabilities, both as audience and as artists.

2. Disability Equality training for artists who work with or wish to work with groups of people with disabilities.

3. OSKA BRIGHT film festival for people with learning disabilities visited Mayo in December 2009, with film screenings and workshops. The local Beehive group exhibited their film ‘Tom and Mary’.

4. The Lawnmower’s, a theatre company for people with learning disabilities visited Mayo in November and carried out peer-learning workshops and worked with theatre practitioners nationally who have experience in this area. Local groups in Carrowbeg,Westportand Beehive, Ballina participated.

5. The ADNP learning is being replicated in other local authorities. At the end of 2010, the partners produced a resource pack – ‘Shift in Perspective’ to help disseminate the learning and to address issues around access in buildings and events.
