Mayo County Council Arts Office supported International Day of Persons with Disabilities through the provision of support for arts projects/events in Mayo which included a variety of groups of people with disabilities. In celebration of International Day of Persons with disabilities, there were events in Ballina,Westportand Castlebar. These included;
Carrowbeg enterprises and the Custom House Studios: Westport
A series of eight screen-printing training workshops for service users from Carrowbeg enterprises, was facilitated by artists Caroline Masterson and John McHugh at the Custom House Studios, Westport. The workshops culminated in an exhibition of artwork which was launched on 24th February 2011.
Mayo Artsquad, Rural Training Centre, National Learning Network, and the Connaught Creative Resource Centre: Castlebar
An interactive arts workshop in clay, weaving and painting was facilitated by Mayo Artsquad with a group of sixteen disabled adults from: the Rural Training Centre, the Connaught Creative Resource Centre and the National Learning Network. The workshops took place over a full day at the Artsquad Building, Castlebar.
Ridgepool Training Centre and Ballina Arts Centre: Ballina
‘The Fanciful Hotel’, was a music and drama project facilitated by artists Niamh Mc Grath (drama facilitator) and Mary Curran (musician) with a group of disabled people from the Ridgepool Training Centre. This project culminated in a hugely successful performance of work, devised and written by the group, to an invited audience in Ballina Arts Centre.
St Bríd’s School and the Linenhall Arts Centre: Castlebar
An engaging participatory visual arts workshop for students from St Bríd’s School at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar. The workshop was facilitated by artists Denise Clarke, Caitríona Gillespie, Claire DeBarry, Kate McKeown and Breda Burns.
