Description: ‘Minefield’ is a large sculptural installation of five aluminium, brass and steel ‘mines’ which were made following a residency the artist undertook at NASA Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. The works began as hypothetical drawings and animations, then moved to a series of films shot in zero gravity, and then into a series of sculptural objects that became know as Weapons of Mass Consumption. The work was exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy to great critical acclaim in the 2009 ‘Futures’ exhibition, and provides an iconic permanent installation in the entrance to Ballina Arts Centre.
