Waste Collection Permits
Under the Waste Management (Collection Permit) Regulations, 2007 and Waste Management (Collection Permit) (Amendment) Regulations, 2008, a person who wishes to collect waste for the purposes of reward and with a view to profit requires an authorisation from a nominated local authority in the form of a waste collection permit. Mayo County Council is the nominated authority for the Connaught Region, one of 10 regions in
Hence, in order to collect wastes such as commercial and household recyclables, construction and demolition waste, subsoil, tyres, electrical items, batteries and household wastes etc. in any area within the Connaught Region an application must be made for a waste collection permit to Mayo County Council. In certain circumstances an application can also be made for the collection of wastes in other regions throughout the country.
It is deemed an offence to collect waste materials which are not exempt under the Waste Management Act 1996 to 2008 without holding a current waste collection permit.
If you are using the services of a contractor to collect waste or recyclable goods, ensure that the waste collector holds a current waste collection permit which authorises the collection of specific wastes in the region where collection is proposed to take place.
