Major Emergency Plan

Introduction

One of the most predictable things in life is that the unexpected will sometimes happen.  It is inevitable that every year many incidents will occur within our county which will disrupt our normal routine.  Some of these may have little impact on the local community; others may require the activation of a plan to deal with such events which are beyond the normal capabilities of the Local Authority.

The purpose of this plan, is to establish a plan of action to provide for the efficient and effective deployment of services and resources in the event of a major emergency, to protect and preserve the safety, health and welfare of the residents and visitors to County Mayo; to limit and prevent damage and destruction of property, infrastructure and the environment, and to help communities effected to return to normality as soon as possible.

This plan has been prepared in accordance with the Government’s Major Emergency Management Framework and following consultation with relevant stakeholders.
