Local Heritage & Living Landscape Course
Local Heritage & Living Landscape Course
Mayo County Council Heritage Office and Mayo North East LEADER Partnership Company have developed a course on local heritage and landscape for communities in North and East Mayo who wish to gain an understanding and appreciation of local heritage and the environment.
The course, which is supported by the Heritage Council, will be held at a venue to be agreed. The start date is Tuesday, 23rd February, 2010 for eight (8) weekly evening sessions and there will be two Saturday field trips. A number of keynote heritage/environmental specialists will be covering parts of the course that will include landscape, the natural environment and its biodiversity, local history, folklore and the archaeology of the area.
On completion of the course, participating communities will develop a heritage project for their own area. An award will be given to the most successful and innovative projects. Grant support to assist in project development may be sought from Mayo North East LEADER Partnership Company, through the Rural Development Programme.
In order to have maximum gain, each participating community is requested to have three people attend the course. As places are limited, there is an application process and applications will be assessed and successful applicant communities will be notified no later than Tuesday, 16th February, 2010. To assist in covering course materials, transport costs etc., there will be a small participation fee of €50 per community.
A course outline and application forms for individuals wishing to attend can be downloaded here
Completed Application Forms should be returned to this office by Friday, 12th February, 2010.
