Wild Mayo , is a beautifully-illustrated book on the landscape and wildlife of County Mayo, The book, written by Michael Viney and published by Mayo County Council, takes the reader on a wonderful journey of discovery through Mayo’s landscape. It details the flora and wildlife that can be found in the remarkable range of Mayo habitats from mountain summit to peatland, lakes and rivers, farmland, limestone pavement, and Atlantic shore.
Wild Mayo was recently launched by poet Paul Durcan in the Courthouse in Castlebar. Paul launching the book in the said “Wild Mayo is a gem of a book, beautifully written and most handsomely published”. He added “every Irish embassy and consulate around the world should have a copy as, indeed, should every school, hospital and nursing home and every football club, cycling club, sailing club and walking club in Mayo"
Michael Viney is a writer, painter and naturalist, who lives in Thallabawn, west of Louisburgh has written a number of books on natural heritage and has written and illustrated a weekly column on nature and ecology in the Irish Times for the last 30 years.
