Recovery Vehicles

Recovery Vehicles

A Recovery Vehicle is a vehicle constructed or permanently adapted for the purposes of lifting, towing or transporting a disabled vehicle.  It can be used for no other purpose. As Recovery Vehicle Tax is a concessionary rate of Motor Tax you must be in a position to satisfy us that the recovery tax rate applies in your case when you are first taxing the vehicle.

It is important to note that a recovery vehicle does not automatically  qualify for the recovery rate of motor tax as the rate of mptor tax depends on the use to which a vehicle is put.

Local Inspection

A local inspection by a Council Official is required if a recovery vehicle is being taxed for the first time either new, imported, on conversion or on change of ownership. This is to ensure that the signage, lights, winch etc are in place . If you are taxing a new or imported vehicle or a converted vehicle as a recovery vehicle, it must first be approved by Revenue as a recovery vehicle.
