Seachtain na Gaeilge Book Club

'Fánaidheacht i gConndae Mhaigh Eo' by Gaoth Sáile native Séamus Mac Dhuibhir has been selected as the Jackie Clarke Collection Book of the Month. There will be a 'Fáilte Uí Cheallaigh' for all, at the Jackie Clarke Collection on Monday 10 March at 7pm when excerpts of the book will be read and mulled over! We are delighted that Máirín Uí Mhurchú is going to join us at this special Seachtain na Gaeilge Book Club to share stories and memories of her father, and of 'Fánaidheacht i gConndae Mhaigh Eo'

Séamus Mac Dhuibhir or 'Préachán Néifinne' as was his pen name in the Western People, was born in Gaoth Sáile and worked as a teacher all overy Mayo. He attended Coláiste Thuar Mhic Éadaigh, and subsequently taught in Swinford, Kilkelly, and Kilmovee and prior to moving to Ballina, he worked as a Principal in Ceardscoil Acla. He established Feis Bhéal an Átha.

He wrote news articles and essays about the Mayo Gaeltacht areas for An t-Éireannach, 'Fánaidheacht i gCondae Mhuigheo', a collection of these articles was published by An Gúm, in 1944, a standardised edition was published in 1994.
