Bealtaine 2010 - Ceiliúradh na Cruthaitheachta sa tSeanaois

BEALTAINE 2010

Is í seo an cúigiú bliain déag de Bhealtaine, an fhéile náisiúnta a cheiliúrann an chruthaitheacht i ndaoine aosta – é comhordanáidithe go náisiúnta ag Age and Opportunity (áisínteacht a bunaíodh le tabhairt faoi dhearcadh diúltach i leith na seanaoise agus le cur chun cinn ról níos leithne ag seanóirí sa phobal). Is é atá mar aidhm ag Bealtaine ná cur le hionchur sheandaoine sna healaíona trí léiriú mothúcháin agus trí pháirt ghníomhach a ghlacadh. Meallann Bealtaine seandaoine le bheith ina lucht féachana/éisteachta eolasach ag foirmeacha uile na healaíne.

I gcaitheamh mhí na Bealtaine rachaidh Emer Mayock agus Joe Byrne, Ealaíontóirí Cónaithe, ar cuairt ag grúpaí éagsúla lena gcuid ceoil agus scéalta  a scaipeadh ar fud an chontae. Tabharfaidh an chónaitheacht seo deis do na ceoltóirí agus do bhaill na ngrúpaí ceol, amhráin agus seanchas/scéalaíocht an chontae a bhlaiseadh.

Beidh Oifig Ealaíon Chomhairle Contae Mhaigh Eo ag reachtáil cónaitheacht damhsa a chuirfidh ceardlanna damhsa ar fáil do roinnt CGLS ar fud Mhaigh Eo le linn Bealtaine.  Beidh Grainne Anderson ag obair le grupaí i Mhaigh Eo. Tá sí ina ball den fhoireann for-rochtana agus oideachais Dance Theatre of Ireland agus d'oibrigh sí le roinnt comhlachtaí agus aoisghrúpaí in Éirinn agus in Albain.

‘Reflecting Colours – Art in the Windows’ is teideal do thaispeántas a cheiliúrann saothar dhaoine aosta a bhí páirteach i gClár Ealaíon agus Sláinte Chomhairle Contae Mhaigh Eo Chomhairle Contae Mhaigh Eo. Tá réimse leathan póstaeir ildaite ar taispeáint i bhfuinneoga ag siopaí, bainc, agus gnónna eile ar Shráid an Droichid i gCathair na Mart i gcaitheamh mhí na Bealtaine. Ba mhian le hOifig Ealaíon Chomhairle Contae Mhaigh Eo buíochas a ghabháil leis na gnónna ar fad a chuirfidh a gcuid spás fuinneoige ar fáil don taispeántas seo.

Chomh maith le seo, beidh Tony Curtis ag léamh a chuid filíochta i Leabharlann Chontae Mhaigh Eo, Dé Máirt 4 Bealtaine. Rugadh i mBaile Átha Cliath é Tony, agus tá go leor cnuasach filíochta dá chuid foilsithe. Beidh Tom Meskell agus Aileen Lambert, beirt ealaíontóirí atá ag obair ar Choimisiúin Phoiblí Ealaíne i Maigh Eo faoi láthair ag cur a gcuid oibre agus tograí i láthair grúpaí éagsúla sa Chontae.

Beidh Oifig Ealaíon Chomhairle Contae Mhaigh Eo i gcomhar le Mayo Artsquad, ealaíontóirí áitiúla agus Músaem Shaol na Tuaithe ag leanacht den obair a thosaigh le New Ground (2008/2009) i dtionscadal  suíomh-lárnaithe mar chuid d’Fhéile na Tuaithe i rith na Bealtaine. Baint mhór a bheas ag na saothair ealaíne a chruthófar le cnuasach an mhúsaeim.

Bealtaine 2010 - Celebrating Creativity in Older Age

It’s that time of year again! Mayo County Council Arts Office is almost ready to embark on a month long programme of activity for Bealtaine 2010. This is the fifteenth year of Bealtaine, the national festival which celebrates creativity in older age – co-ordinated nationally by Age and Opportunity. Bealtaine aims to involve older people in the arts, through expression and active participation. It also encourages older people to engage as an experienced audience for all art forms.

During the month of May Emer Mayock and Joe Byrne, Artists-in-Residence, will be calling to and sharing their music and stories with a number of groups throughout the county. This residency project will provide the musicians and group members with the opportunity to explore the music, song and stories of the county. Mayo County Council Arts Office will be running a Dance residency providing a number of ARA’s throughout Mayo with dance workshops during Bealtaine 2010. Grainne Anderson will be working with the Mayo ARAs. She is a member of Dance Theatre of Ireland’s Education and Outreach team and she has worked with many companies and age groups both in Ireland and Scotland.

‘Reflecting Colours – Art in the Windows’ is an exciting exhibition which celebrates the work of older people involved in Mayo County Council Arts & Health Programme. A wonderful variety of colourful posters are on show in the windows of shops, banks and other businesses along Bridge Street in Westport throughout the month of May. Mayo County Council Arts Office wishes to thank all the businesses which generously volunteered their window spaces for this exhibition.

Also as part of this years programme Tony Curtis will read his poetry at Mayo County Library on Tuesday May 4th at 6.30pm. Tony was born in Dublin and has had several collections of poetry published. Both Tom Meskell and Aileen Lambert, artists involved in public art commissions in Mayo at present, will be presenting their work and projects to a number of groups in the county.

In partnership, Mayo County Council Arts Office, Mayo Artsquad, local artists and The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life will continue the work of New Ground (2008/2009) in a site-specific project as part of Feile na Tuaithe in May. The art works created on site will directly reference the museum’s collection.
