Lá Filíochta Náisiúnta 2009 i Maigh Eo.

Tá lúcháir mhór ar Oifig Ealaíon, Oifig Gaeilge agus Seirbhís Leabharlainne Mhaigh Eo tráthnóna filíochta le Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill agus Geraldine Mitchell a chur i láthair i gCaisleán an Bharraigh, Déardaoin 1ú Deireadh Fómhair ag 8i.n., mar chuid de Lá Filíochta Náisiúnta 2009. Mar gheall ar an rath mór a bhí ar Lá Filíochta Náisiúnta 2008, agus chun aird a tharraingt ar saibhreas agus éagsúlacht na filíóchta comhaimseartha sa tír seo, tá Éigse Éireann i gcomhar le go leor de na hÚdaráis Áitiúla chun an fhilíocht a chur i mbéal an phobail. Beidh na léamha ar siúl i Leabharlann Chontae Mhaigh Eo ar an 1ú Deireadh Fómhair, cuirfear fáilte roimh gach éinne teacht chuig an ócáid seo, beidh cead isteach saor in aisce. Bí i dteagmháil le hOifig Ealaíon Mhaigh Eo ar 094-902 4444 fo-líne 7560 & 7588 le haghaidh tuilleadh eolais.

Is duine de na scríbhneoirí agus de na filí is cáiliúla ar fud an domhain maidir leis an nGaeilge í Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill. Tá sí ag dul ó neart go neart ó d’fhoilsigh sí a céad bailiúchán filíochta “An Dealg Droighin” i 1981 agus tá sí ag foilsiú go seasta ó shin agus áirítear ina cuid saothar, bailiúcháin filíochta, drámaí do pháistí, scripteanna scannáin agus díolamaí. Tá líon mhór duaiseanna idirnáisiúnta agus scoláireachtaí faighte aici agus tá a cuid saothar aistrithe i go leor teangacha éagsúla. Chaith sí seal mar Ollamh Filíochta na hÉireann ó 2001 go dtí 2003.

Tá cónaí ar Geraldine Mitchell gar go Cluain Cearbán, Co. Mhaigh Eo. Rugadh i mBaile Átha Cliath í, bhí cónaí uirthi san Ailgéir agus sa Spáinn sular fhill sí ar Éireann i 1992. Tá a cuid filíochta foilsithe go forleathan in irisí agus ar line. Bhronnadh Duais Patrick Kavanagh uirthi i 2008.

Is deis iontach í Lá Filíochta Náisiúnta don phobal uilig sult a bhaint as na léamha iontacha seo. Tá an ócáid saor in aisce agus cuirfear fáilte roimh gach éinne. Ba mhaith le Comhairle Contae Mhaigh Eo ár mbuíochas a ghlacadh le hÉigse Éireann agus  an Chomhairle Ealaíon as a dtacaíocht.

All Ireland Poetry Day 2009 in Mayo.

Mayo County Council Arts Office, Library Service and Oifig na Gaeilge are delighted to present an evening of poetry with Geraldine Mitchell & Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill in Castlebar at 8pm as part of All Ireland Poetry Day 2009. In light of the enormous success of All Ireland Poetry Day 2008 and in a continuing bid to raise consciousness about poetry now and in the future Poetry Ireland are working in partnership with a number of local authorities to bring poetry to the masses. The reading will take place in Mayo County Library on October 1st, the event is free and all are welcome to come along on the evening. Geraldine Mitchell lives near Louisburgh, Co. Mayo. Born in Dublin, she lived in France, Algeria and Spain before returning to Ireland in 1992. Her poems have been widely published in journals and online. She is also the author of two novels for young people and a biography. She was awarded the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award in 2008.

Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill is one of our best known Irish language writers and a poet of international acclaim. Since her first published collection of poetry “An Dealg Droigin” (1981), Nuala has published consistently and her works include poetry collections, children’s plays, screen plays and anthologies. Her work has received numerous international awards and scholarships and has been translated into many languages. She was Ireland Professor of Poetry from 2001 -2003.

All Ireland Poetry Day is an opportunity for poetry enthusiasts and poetry novices alike to come along and listen to these two fantastic readers. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Mayo County Council wishes to acknowledge the support of Poetry Ireland and the Arts Council of Ireland in bringing Mayo audiences this event.
