Rith 2010

Rith 2010 to see hundreds running through Mayo

Tiocfaidh an Rith go Maigh Eo ar an 16 Márta, beidh na céadta daoine ag rith ó Chaisleán an Bharraigh tríd Chathair na Mart ar an mbealach go dtí teorann chontae na Gaillimhe. Beidh oíche mhór i Matt Molloy's i gCathair na Mart ar an 16ú Márta dóibh siúd ar ghlac páirt sa rás.

The Rith will arrive in Mayo on the 16th March, hundreds of participants will run from Castlebar through Westport and on to the Galway border. Weary runners will recover in “Club Rith” in Matt Molloy’s, Westport.

At the launch of Rith 2010 were Ollie Cahill (FAI), Anthony Moyles (GAA), TV presenter Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh, and Luke Fitzgerald (IRFU).

Tosóidh Rith 2010 - féile agus ollrith ar son na Gaeilge ar an 9 Márta i mBéal Feirste agus leanfaidh sé ar aghaidh go dtí Lá Fhéile Pádraig áit a gcríochnóidh sé i gcathair na Gaillimhe. Tá súil go mbeidh na mílte ag rith ar son na Gaeilge áit a mbeidh bata sealaíochta á n-iompar acu ina mbeidh teachtaireacht ó Uachtarán na hÉireann istigh ann. Léifear amach an teachtaireacht seo ag deireadh an reatha ar Lá Fhéile Pádraig.

Is slí úrnua é Rith 2010 chun teanga agus cultúr na Gaeilge a cheiliúradh go feiceálach i bpobail ar fud na hÉireann agus airgead a bhailiú d'fhorbairt na Gaeilge ag an am céanna. Tá Rith 2010 maoinithe i bpáirt ag Foras na Gaeilge.

Is féidir le grúpaí pobail, scoileanna, clubanna, nó daoine aonair páirt a ghlacadh i Rith 2010 ar iliomad bealaí - téigh chuig www.rith.ie. Rachaidh an t-airgead ar fad ó Rith 2010 go Ciste Rith, a chuirfidh maoiniú ar fáil amach anseo do thograí Gaeilge ar fud na tíre.

Chomh maith leis an rith é féin, beidh neart imeachtaí ar siúl timpeall na tíre mar chuid de Sheachtain na Gaeilge a bheidh ag tarlú ag an am céanna. Mar sin, ceannaigh ciliméadar, tacaigh leis an nGaeilge agus tar amach le linn na coicíse - beidh neart craic, ceol agus, ar ndóigh, Rith i gceist.

Rith 2010, an innovative way to promote the Irish language through a 1,600 km relay-run, will begin in Belfast on March 9 and finish in Galway city on St Patrick’s Day. Thousands will run through 250 towns across 15 counties “ar son na Gaeilge” with the specially designed baton which will hold a secret message from the President of Ireland, which will not be revealed until the end of the run.

The Rith will arrive in Mayo on the 16th March, hundreds of participants will run from Castlebar through Westport and on to the Galway border. Weary runners will recover in “Club Rith” in Matt Molloy’s, Westport.

Rith 2010 is the first event of its kind in Ireland and it’s modelled on the Basque Country’s Korrika which has been established since 1980. Last year more than 600,000 people took part in Korrika which is accompanied by music, cultural activities, and thousands of spectators along the way. The objective of Rith 2010 is also to raise money which will be invested into Irish language projects throughout the country.

Community groups, school groups, clubs, and individuals are all invited to buy a kilometer and take part at any stage of the 1,600km course. For more information see www.rith.ie
