CEISTNEOIR AR MHEON AN PHOBAIL I LEITH AN FHÁINNE | SURVEY ON ATTITUDES TO AN FÁINNE

Is siombail é An Fáinne ar an nasc atá agat leis an nGaeilge. Caitear An Fáinne mar chomhartha go bhfuil Gaeilge agat agus go bhfuil tú toilteanach í a labhairt.

Is do dhaoine le cumas bunúsach sa Ghaeilge atá an Fáinne Airgid. Léiríonn an Fáinne Óir go bhfuil líofacht sa Ghaeilge agat. Tá suaitheantas den teideal ‘Cúpla Focal’ ar fáil dóibh siúd ar bheagán Gaeilge atá bródúil as an gcúpla focal atá acu. Cé go bhfuil borradh mór tagtha faoi dhíolacháin an Fháinne le cúpla bliain anuas, pléadh ag seimineár comhoibriúcháin idir na heagraíochtaí Gaeilge le deireanaí an raibh gá le suaitheantais nua, a bheadh níos nua-aimseartha agus a bheadh níos tarraingtí do lucht labhartha na Gaeilge.

Anseo sa Chomhdháil, cloisimid scéalta go rialta ó dhaoine ar casadh daoine orthu a bhí ag caitheamh an Fháinne, agus gur spreag an Fáinne comhrá eatarthu, comhrá nach mbeadh ann gan an Fáinne. Cloisimid freisin ó dhaoine, go háirithe iad siúd atá ag obair leis an bpobal, go gcuireann an Fáinne leis an tseirbhís atá siad ag cur ar fáil, agus go gcuireann caitheamh an Fháinne in iúl do dhaoine eile gur féidir leo bheith ar a gcompord ag labhairt i nGaeilge leo. Chun meon an phobail i leith an Fháinne a mheas, ba mhaith linn bhur mbarúil a fháil ar an bhFáinne, agus an fhorchiall atá i measc an phobail maidir le caitheamh an Fháinne. Is minic a chloisimid scéalta faoi go gcasann Gaeilgeoirí ar a chéile trí Bhéarla, agus nach mbíonn a fhios acu go bhfuil Gaeilge ag an té eile go ceann i bhfad. Má chuireann tú aithne ar dhuine i dteanga amháin, faigheann roinnt daoine deacair go maith é an teanga labhartha sin a athrú tar éis tamaill. Ba mhaith linn bhur smaointe a bhailiú maidir le haon bhealach eile a mheasann sibh a bheadh ann chun go n-aithneodh Gaeilgeoirí a chéile, ionas go bhféadfadh daoine a chasann ar a chéile den chéad uair, aithne a chur ar a chéile trí Ghaeilge ar dtús báire.

Tá suirbhé cruthaithe againn ag an nasc seo, chun meon agus tuairimí an phobail i leith an Fháinne a bhailiú. Is féidir an ceistneoir a líonadh isteach ag an nasc seo

An Fáinne symbolizes your link to the Irish language. An Fáinne is worn to show that you are able to and are willing to speak Irish.

The Silver Fáinne is suitable for those who have a basic ability in Irish. The Gold Fáinne indicates that you are a fluent Irish speaker. The ‘Cúpla Focal’ badge is available to those with a small amount of Irish who are proud of the cúpla focal they have. Although sales of An Fáinne have seen a marked increase in recent years, at a co-operation seminar between Irish language organisations recently, there was discussion on whether there was a need for a new emblem, which would be perceived as modern and attractive by Irish language speakers.

Here at An Chomhdháil, we often hear tales of how people have met and An Fáinne sparked a conversation between them, and without An Fáinne they would not have known that the other person spoke Irish. We often hear from people who work in the services industry, that An Fáinne adds to the service which they provide, and allows people to be comfortable in speaking Irish to them. To understand the public’s opinion of An Fáinne as well as some of the connotations and perceptions surrounding it, we are asking the public to complete a short questionnaire. We often hear tales of how Irish speakers meet though English, and that they don’t realise each other speak Irish for some time. If you get to know somebody through one language, it can often be difficult then to switch languages at a later date. We would like to get your opinion, as to any other methods available for Irish speakers to recognise others who speak Irish, so they will get to know each other through Irish from the start.

A short questionnaire is available here, to assess your opinions of An Fáinne, or other Irish language emblems.
