Crossmolina Sewerage and Sewerage Disposal Scheme
The Scheme provided a new sewerage treatment works, pumping stations and also involved the replacement and extension of sewers in Crossmolina.
The new treatment works helps to improve the quality of the receiving waters in the Deel River and Lough Conn and also caters for future industrial, commercial and domestic needs of the town. The Scheme helps to improve the quality of water in Lough Conn which is one of the County’s main angling lakes and is a very important tourist attraction in Mayo and the west of Ireland generally. The Scheme cost €13 million, commenced construction in May 2001 and was commissioned in 2003. The Scheme was part funded by the European Union and the Irish Exchequer under the National Development Plan 2000 – 2006.
