We have been asked to circulate a link to the Westport Community Survey. It is a survey about the well-being of our community. The group organising the survey is the Westport Community Initiative (WCI). It formed almost three years ago out of concern arising from suicides in the Westport area. They have undertaken several initiatives since, aimed at resourcing people and organisations to be more aware and skilled in dealing with the specific issue of suicide and the general issue of community well-being. Their work has included the publication of a local supports and services directory and several training programmes, such as ASSIST and SAFETALK.
Up until now the group has been operating on the experience of its members, anecdotes and some guess work. The purpose of this survey is to find out, as accurately as possible, how people in Westport are doing, how they experience living in Westport. The survey is confidential and anonymous. It does ask questions about your well-being that might make some people uncomfortable. Helplines for people who are affected by doing the survey are included.
The results of the survey will be used mainly to help understand better the needs and attitudes of our community so that the support it gets can be be further enhanced into the future. The survey will take place from the 11th to the end of November 2016. WCI hopes that as many people as possible in the Westport community, who are 15 years or over will complete the survey.
