Website Accessibility

Recent Work & Plans For the Future

Since 2002, the IT Section of Mayo County Council has endeavored to make the Council's websites as Accessible as possible.  In practical terms, this means that all web pages are built to AA WAI 1.0/2.0 standards with many AAA checkpoints met.  This is in line with NDA policies and recommendations.

Some of the Accessibility features of the website which we are especially proud of include:

  • an Accessible Planning Search
  • subtitling of videos about the Council
  • the availability of most documents in Accessible formats

Since 2006, the IT Section has commissioned periodic external website audits and has employed several tools for conducting internal audits.

The IT Section was proud to receive the 2007 eGovernment Award for Accessibility and to assist the Council in winning the Overall O2 Ability Award and was shortlisted for the eGovernment Award for Accessibility in 2010.
