Resolved:
"That the sympathy of the Council be extended to Mrs. Hannah Gallagher and family, Currane, Achill, on the death of her husband Denis, who was a former member of the Council, and that the meeting be adjourned as a mark of respect."
The Members paid glowing tributes to the late Denis Gallagher, who had been a member of the Council from 1967 to 1977. Mr. Gallagher became a full time public representative when he was elected to the Dail in 1973, a position he held until his retirement in 1989. He was appointed Minister for the Gaeltacht in 1977 and was a founder member of Udaras na Gaeltachta, of which he later became Cathaoirleach.
Mr. Gallagher was an active campaigner for the development of the fishing industry and was founder of the Achill Fisheries Co-Operative Society. He also was a keen G.A.A. supporter, holding the position of Chairman of the Mayo County Board, and later Chairman of the Connaught Council of the Association. He worked tirelessly in the development of the community in Currane and Achill.
The County Manager, on his own behalf and on behalf of the staff, associated himself with the Vote of Sympathy passed.
It was agreed to deal with Items Nos. 3, 5, and 6, as listed on the Agenda.
ITEM NO. 3
TO APPROVE OF THE DISPOSAL OF 0.15 HECTARES OF LAND TO BRIDIE HUGHES, WESTPORT, COUNTY MAYO, IN ACCORDANCE WITH NOTICE DATED 5th OCTOBER, 2001, ALREADY CIRCULATED.

Resolved:
"That we hereby approve of the disposal of 0.15 hectares of land with 40 metres frontage to the Kilkelly Road, circa 1.5 miles from the Dublin Road at Carrowcanada, Swinford, to Bridie Hughes, Rampart Wood, Golf Course Road, Westport, Co. Mayo, for £15,500, in accordance with Section 83 of the Local Government Act, 1946, extended by Section 88 of the Housing Act, 1966, and Notice dated 5th October, 2001, already circulated."

TO CONSIDER REPORT DATED 5TH NOVEMBER, 2001, PURSUANT TO SECTION 2(8) OF THE CITY AND COUNTY MANAGEMENT (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1955, AND PART 10 OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT (PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT) REGULATIONS 1994, IN RESPECT OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF 6 NO. DWELLINGS AT BOLLINGLANNA, CURRANE, COUNTY MAYO.

"That the Council hereby adopt Report dated 5th November, 2001, pursuant to Section 2(7) of the City and County Management (Amendment) Act, 1955, and Part 10 of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Regulations, 1994, in respect of the construction of 6 no. dwellings at Bollinglanna, Currane, County Mayo."

DWELLINGS AND COMMUNITY FACILITIES AT STRAKE, CLARE ISLAND, CO. MAYO.
