The Arts Council has announced the deadline for the 2011 Reel Art scheme.  Reel Art is designed to provide film artists with a unique opportunity to make highly creative, imaginative and experimental documentaries on an artistic theme.  Operated in association with Filmbase and the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, Reel Art will support three films with grants of €70-€80,000 per project.  Reel Art films will premiere at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival in February 2013. The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday, 16 September at 5pm.

The Arts Council’s purpose in offering the Reel Art scheme is to support film artists to make documentary art films that would not otherwise get made. A key aim of the scheme is to complement, rather than replicate, the documentary and other funding programmes offered by the Arts Council, broadcasters and funding agencies in Ireland.  Reel Art projects should be conceived for theatrical exhibition at film festivals and in arthouse cinema settings.  Only proposals for original, imaginative and aesthetically-driven treatments of arts subjects will be considered while proposals that offer visually engaging, creative and experimental approaches to their subject will be prioritised.

Updated guidelines for Reel Art 2011, together with application forms for the scheme are available for download from the website www.reelart.ie.

Tá fáilte roimh ealaíontóirí iarratas a dhéanamh le bheith roghnaithe, le seal a chaitheamh mar ealaíontóir cónaitheach don tréimhse idir Samhain 2011 agus Nollaig 2012.

Tógadh an tearmann ealaíona seo ar fhothraigh bhaile beag ón mbliain 1790, ar bharra na faille os cionn an Atlantaigh i gCiarraí Theas.  Tugtar deis d’fhísealaíontóirí, scríbhneoirí, agus daoine cruthaitheach teacht anseo agus díriú isteach go hiomlán ar a gcleachtas ealaíona.  Tá sé mar aidhm ag Cill Rialaig an chruthaitheacht den scoth a chothú agus spás a chur ar fáil don ealaíontóir le n-oibriú ann agus le spiorad na cruthaíochta iontu féin a athmhúscailt.  Is clár idirdhisciplíneach atá á riaradh trína fáiltítear roimh fhísealaíontóirí go príomhdha ach ina ghlacann grianghrafadóirí, scríbhneoirí, filí, scríbhneoirí scripte, ealaíontóirí feidhmeacha, ceoltóirí agus cumadóirí, ailtirí agus a leithéid páirt chomh maith.  Glactar le healaíontóirí as Éirinn agus ó thar lear sa chlár.

Tá Cill Rialaig in áit iargúlta, i gceantar Gaeltachta Chiarraí Theas.  Tá na tithe in oiriúint le mareachtaint agus le n-oibriú iontu.  Tá seirbhísí bunúsacha iontu ach táid gan trealamh nua-aoiseach ar nós teilifís, guthán ná idirlíon.  Toisc an áit a bhfuil sé lonnaithe, níl aon chur isteach ar an nduine, seachas an tírdhreach féin:  is tearmann fírinneach atá ann.

Níl aon chostas i gceist dóibh siúd a roghnaítear, cé go bhfuil táille beag i gceist le costais seirbhísí a chlúdach.   Déanann Cuairteoirí a gcuid socraithe féin maidir le hiompar,  bia agus eile.  Buaileann an choiste roghnaitheach le chéile faoi dhó sa mbliain agus is é an 15ú Meán Fómhair an chéad spriocdháta eile.  Is é an chéad spriocdháta eile ina dhiaidh sin ná 15ú Márta 2012.

The Cill Rialaig Project in southwest Kerry invites applications for residencies for November 2011 to December 2012.

Built out of the ruins of a 1790s pre-famine village atop a cliff face overlooking the Atlantic, Cill Rialaig offers artists, writers and other creative professionals an opportunity to get away from everyday career pressures and the demands of 21st century life in order to focus entirely on their artistic practice.  The purpose of Cill Rialaig is to foster creativity and excellence, to provide a place to work and regenerate.  To that end it operates a multi-disciplinary residency programme.  While residents are primarily visual artists, they also include photographers, writers, poets, screenwriters, applied artists, musicians and composers, architects, and their peers, from Ireland and abroad.

Cill Rialaig is located in a very remote Gaeltacht area.  Its cottages are living-work spaces that provide for residents’ essential work and living needs.  They are very simple without modern accoutrements of television, telephones or internet.  The remote location means that there are very few distractions other than the landscape; it is a true retreat.

Residencies are offered free of charge, although there is a small service fee for utilities.  Residents provide their own transportation, food and supplies.  The selection committee meets twice a year, and the next deadline for applications is September 15, 2011.  The following deadline is March 15, 2012.
