Tri Heroes Splash and Dash 2024

Date: 20-03-2024

Another Successful Year for Splash & Dash Tri Heroes Event at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar

Marking another milestone in promoting sports and fitness among the youth in Mayo.

At the onset of 2024, Mayo Sports Partnership joined forces with Triathlon Ireland once again to launch Tri Heroes within schools across Mayo. This initiative aims to introduce primary and secondary school pupils of all abilities to the disciplines of cycling, running, and swimming, where facilities permitted.

Tri Heroes, designed by Triathlon Ireland, is a program that strikes a balance between fun and challenge, seamlessly integrated into school curriculums, or offered as an after-school activity. Over the course of five 45-minute sessions, students delve into the fundamentals of triathlon disciplines, culminating in a mini-duathlon or mini-triathlon event.

For the Mayo Tri Heroes 2024 edition, 5th and 6th class students from numerous schools have been learning additional skills through running, cycling and swimming led by their schools, guided by Triathlon Ireland and Mayo Sports Partnership.

The much-anticipated finale took place on Tuesday, March 19th, as Mayo Sports Partnership hosted the Splash and Dash end event at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar. A total of 14 schools and 600 enthusiastic students participated in a thrilling 50m swim and 1.25km run event, showcasing their newfound skills and strength.

"We are thrilled with the response again this year and delighted to once again partner with Triathlon Ireland to bring Tri Heroes to Mayo. It is a huge highlight to the schools and to the kids taking part," expressed Deirdre Donnelly, Community Sports Development Officer at Mayo Sports Partnership.

The Splash & Dash Tri Heroes event continues to serve as a beacon of encouragement for youth participation in sports and healthy lifestyles, embodying the collaborative efforts of Mayo Sports Partnership, Triathlon Ireland, and the participating schools.
